Amazing Portable Water Filter: LifeStraw

It’s pretty fair to say that at the Moochly offices we come across our fair share of shitty products now and then.

This nifty product, however, is actually pretty damn cool. LifeStraw is a portable water filter which removes 99.9%+ of water-based bacteria, parasites and other nasties. It’s been used in developing countries for many years, but is now available in the west for personal use. Obviously, we don’t have the same problems of water sanitation that a lot of the rest of the world does. In fact, more than twice the population of the United States lives without access to safe water. That’s a lot of people.

That doesn’t mean the LifeStraw doesn’t have a ton of uses. Anyone who hikes, camps or fishes (among other things) will find this as a handy backup. Sure, you don’t want to use it if you don’t have to, but it could save your ass in a number of situations. Drinking unclean water – even from what seems like a pristine source – can result in a nasty case of belly ache, or worse.

It’s also handy when travelling to remote destinations overseas, where you might not want to trust the water supply. Speaking from experience, nothing wrecks your travel plans like spending half the day on the toilet and the other half rushing to it.
